Photo Credit: Cathedral of the Risen ChristFrom the floor of the Nave to the Bishop's Throne are twelve steps. These twelve steps are a symbolic link of the Bishop to the twelve Apostles, through the unbroken succession of Popes to the Apostle Peter, who was the first Pope, and on to Christ himself. The Bishop is the chief shepherd of the flock, the father of his spiritual family. As such, he is seated in the Cathedral -- overlooking his family. Here, like a father, he blesses his people and speaks to instruct and counsel his spiritual family to walk in the way of the Lord. When the bishop officiates, a priest sits in the chairs on either side of the Throne.
