FOOD PANTRY ~ July is the month for Cathedral to stock the shelves.  Items that are especially needed are: Spaghetti, spaghetti sauce, small size cooking oil, ramen noodles, tuna, peanut butter, jelly, mac and cheese, pasta and toilet tissue. Non-perishable items can be placed in the “Food Pantry” box located in the vestibule.  Cash donations may be placed in the collection baskets marked “food pantry”.
Please return filled bags to the vestibule.

Charity and Stewardship (DDP) So far pledges total $235,783.50 with 925 pledge cards being turned in. The volunteers should be finishing their calls this week.  Thank you for responding.        - Monsignor Tucker

Please welcome FOCUS (Fellowship of Catholic University Students) Missionaries:  Adam Schlautman, Christine Westerlin, and Dan Haden, all FOCUS missionaries from Lincoln, on the weekend of July 26th and 27th.  They will be sharing the mission of FOCUS and how you can get involved.  FOCUS takes recent college graduates, trains them, and sends them back onto college campuses to evangelize and catechize their peers.  For more information, please contact the missionaries at 560-0452 or visit the FOCUS website at www.focusonline.org.

PARISH ORGANIZATIONS

In commemoration of St Anne's Feast Day, St Anne's PCCW Circle will meet for morning mass at 7:30 am, Saturday July 26th.  Following Mass we will gather for breakfast at the Pantry located at 48th & Van Dorn.  Any woman of the parish interested in joining our circle, which handles the funeral dinners for the parish, is welcome to attend breakfast as our guest.  Please rsvp to Tomi Storz @ 488-7194.

SPIRITUAL ENRICHMENT

Cathedral Prayer Line is a ministry of about 10 men and women of our parish focused on intercessory prayer for you and anyone you wish us to pray for.  We, as pray-ers, are committed to confidentiality.  We know that there are painful situations that people go through.  We are pleased to pray for ANY CONCERNS YOU MAY HAVE.  There are no intentions too simple or too serious for us to intercede for.  You may call either Barb at 483-5105, or Mary at 489-0340 to have the prayer line intercede for your intentions.  “Pray without ceasing.” 1 Thessalonians 5:17.

BENEDICTINE OBLATE ORIENTATION for new members will be held Sunday, August 10 and Monday, August 11 (attend either session) at 7 p.m. in the Sheridan Room at Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital. Pope Benedict XVI has proclaimed this the  “Year of St. Paul”. Deacon Jon Haschke is leading a study of St. Paul in the Acts of the Apostles.  The final Thursday is July 24, at 7:00 pm in Benedictine Hall. Please remember to bring your Bible.

SUPPORT GROUPS / EDUCATION / OTHER

Natural Family Planning, Creighton Model, Introductory Sessions are scheduled for Tuesday, July 22; Thursday, August 7; Tuesday, August 19.  For more information, location and to pre-register, call 488-2040.

Birthright appreciates all the generous donors.  They will soon be moving to a new location at 56th and O ST.  They are in need of some volunteers so they can extend their hours and be more available to those who need them.  Please consider joining them to help women choose life and receive the help they need.  Call Barb Lockhart at 421-8141 or Paula Allen at 423-2472 and find out how you can help.

Cathedral Grief Support is an outreach ministry that offers a Christ-centered approach to meet the needs of those who have suffered the loss of a baby through miscarriage, stillbirth, neonatal death or SIDS.  When this sort of loss has occurred in the parish, a rose is placed at the foot of the Blessed Mother statue.  This serves as a memorial for the baby lost and gives the parish an opportunity to pray for the family during this difficult time.  For more information about this program, contact Sandy at 483-5726.

The monthly meeting of Calix, will be held on Sunday, July 27 at Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital.  Mass is at 5:00 PM in Ryan Chapel. A covered dish meal and meeting will follow.  Anyone affected with alcoholism is invited.  Questions: Craig at 438-6319.

Marriage Saving-the Post Session Phase—The post-weekend phase of Retrouvaille is as crucial to the healing of the troubled marriage as the initial weekend experience. During the post-weekend sessions, the weekend technique is further developed and combined with additional tools to explore other areas of the marriage relationship.  For confidential information about or to register for the August program beginning the weekend on August 8-10, call 888-317-5654.

YOUTH ~ FAMILY ~ SCHOOL

SURF’S UP!!!  This year's Kids 4 Jesus Vacation school is coming to Cathedral--"Surfin' With the Spirit!”.  This year's dates are Monday-Friday, August 4-8 from 8:15-12:00.  Registrations can be picked up at the church office.  The registration fee is $25.00 per child with a $50.00 family maximum.  We will be accepting registrations for Pre-K (Ages 4-6) through completed 4th grade.  Junior captain volunteers--grades 5-8 are welcome. PRE-SCHOOL REGISTRATION: To be registered for the M-W-F AM or M-W-F PM sessions – children must be 4 years old by June 30th.  To be registered for the T-TH AM session - children must have turned 3 years old by January 31st. For information please call Deanna Huppert at 730-3005.

REMINDER TO CATHEDRAL SCHOOL KINDERGARTEN & 7TH GRADE PARENTS:  All incoming kindergarten and 7th grade students are required to have a physical examination before the start of school in the fall.  A copy of your child’s physical, current immunizations & complete vision evaluation (for kindergarteners) must be on file in the school office before August 21, 2008. 

Hamburger/Hot Dog Night at the Knights of Columbus Hall!  Load the kids up and head to 61st and South Street on July 23rd.  Eat from 6:00 –8:00 PM.  The cost  $5.00.  Kids 12 and under, $3.00

Cathedral Youth Stewardship would like to invite all parishioners to join them at Star City Shores this Saturday, July 26th from 10:00 am - noon for the annual family swim.  Cost is only 2.00 per person.
