Fifteenth Sunday of Ordinary Time

July 13, 2008

Email: CathedralOfTheRisenChrist@crchrist-parish.org
Website: www.crchrist-parish.org

Rector:  Monsignor Robert G. Tucker
Parochial Vicar:  Father Jay M. Buhman
In Residence:  Father Andrew V. Menke
Deacon: Rev. Mr. Jonathan J. Haschke

Father Jay Buhman was born in Lincoln, Nebraska but grew up in York, Nebraska not too far away. He is the first-born son of Gene and Jan Buhman who still live in York and work as financial advisors. Father has two siblings. Chad lives and works here in Lincoln and Kara, the youngest and most spoiled, has just graduated from Wesleyan University and lives and works here in town. Father loves sports, but especially baseball, and he loves to travel. Father Buhman really began to entertain thoughts of the priesthood in college. He was bouncing from major to major at the University of Nebraska and finally decided to try the seminary. After one semester, he left his studies and returned to the University. The call he thought would go away never did. A year and half later he resumed his studies for the priesthood for the inaugural year of St. Gregory the Great Seminary. After graduating from our diocesan seminary, Father attended St. Charles Borromeo Seminary in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was ordained in 2004 after serving a summer as a deacon here at the Cathedral. He has served at St. Teresa Church in Lincoln for one year and the Newman Center on the campus of the University of Nebraska for three years.

The flowers adorning the sanctuary today are given to the glory of God and in loving memory of my husband Dan Hergert from Mary Hergert.
For information on donating flowers to adorn the sanctuary, please contact Nancy O’Brien at 476-2191 or the Rectory at 488-0948.

Father Paschal will be here this weekend for the annual Missionary Cooperative Appeal. He is from the diocese of Tanga-Tan Zania in Africa, and he will share with us the work of the Church in his Diocese. Donations may be placed in the envelope attached to this bulletin and returned in the collection next Sunday.

FOOD PANTRY ~July is the month for Cathedral to stock the shelves. The food pantry is running very low on food for the needy of Lincoln. Items they are especially needed are: Spaghetti, spaghetti sauce, small size cooking oil, ramen noodles, tuna, peanut butter, jelly, mac and cheese, pasta and toilet tissue. Non-perishable items can be placed in the “Food Pantry” box located in the vestibule. Cash donations may be placed in the collection baskets marked “food pantry”.
Next weekend, July 19 and 20, the Knights of Columbus will be handing out grocery bags to be filled. Filled bags can be returned to the vestibule.

Charity and Stewardship (DDP) So far pledges total $229,693.50 with 847 pledge cards being turned in. Our volunteers are making calls; please accept their call openly. Thank you for responding. - Monsignor Tucker

Please pray for the seminarians attending Saint Gregory the Great Seminary in Seward .
