A HOLY DAY OF OBLIGATION, THE FEAST OF THE ASSUMPTION OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY, IS THIS FRIDAY, AUGUST 15.  FOR MASS TIMES SEE THE MASS SCHEDULE.

During the month of July Cathedral parishioners donated 3,068 pounds of food and $1,564 to Catholic Social Services Food Pantry.  The food donations set an all-time high for donations from a single parish.  Your generosity allows CSS to provide assistance to the needy of our community.  Thank you!

LEARN MORE ABOUT THE CATHOLIC FAITH! Catholics invite someone to join the Catholic Faith and attend the RCIA with them.  RCIA~ (Adult Instructions in the Catholic Faith) will begin MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 15 @ 6:30 in Benedictine Hall.  Call the Rectory @ 488-0948 for details.

PERPETUAL ADORATION

We are in need of a captain for the evening hours 7:00 until 11:00, Sunday through Saturday. Call Cassie to find out what a captain does. Listen! Is the Lord calling you to service in the Perpetual Adoration Program? Contact Cassie Chandler, 483-7559.

PARISH ORGANIZATIONS

LOTW/SINE Reunion.  In celebration of the 10th Anniversary of the first LOTW/SINE retreat at Cathedral of the Risen Christ.  We are holding the first annual reunion for all those who have attended a parish retreat at Cathedral, Thursday, September 25th.  The evening will begin with Mass for deceased members at 6:00 PM, followed by a banquet in Benedictine Hall, a notable Catholic guest speaker and social time.  Reserve the date, more detailed information will be coming in future bulletins.

LOTW Internal Coordinators meeting ~ Saturday, August 16 @ 8:00 am in Crowley Hall.

Cathedral Mixed Bowling League will begin on Thursday, August 28.  Come join this fun, social league.  We bowl at Parkway Lanes at 9:00 PM on Thursday nights.  Bowling League meeting is at Cathy Berlage's house, 5240 South 52nd ST, on Thursday, August 21 at 7:00 PM.  For more information contact, Vivian Burress, 613-0481, Adam Reinke, 742-6495 or Kevin Morehouse, 483-4267.

Knights of Columbus Picnic ~August 10th at Holmes Lake, Shelter 3 from 1pm - 4pm.  We will eat at 2 pm. The Council will furnish paper goods, drinks, meat, buns, and condiments for the picnic. Everyone should bring the following for the picnic: Last name beginning with A - H should bring a salad; Last name beginning with I - Q should bring a dessert; Last name beginning with R - Z should bring baked beans or potato chips or an appetizer.

PCCW ~ Saint Mary’s Circle will meet Wednesday, August 13th at 7:00 pm at the home of Julie Kermmoade, 3037 South 47th Street, 488-0273.  New Members Welcome.

Divine Mercy Flowers—Have you noticed all the beautiful flowers in the church this summer?  In addition to bouquets donated for the main altar as memorials or in honor of a special occasion, many of these bouquets have been “re-arranged” with fresh flowers and moved to a side location for another week in addition to the other bouquets added.  If you can volunteer your time to help arrange flowers or provide daily care, please come to the church on Wednesday, August 13th at 7:00 pm.  No experience needed.  Questions may be directed to Mary Beth at 489-4020 or Mary Jean at 421-1615.

Cathedral Choir ~ God gives us many different talents to use in our lives.  One of those is musical talent.  Members of the Cathedral Choir dedicate over three hours per week and over 100 hours per year to singing praise to God.  There are many others out there who have musical talent.  Won't you join the choir members by using that God-given talent to sing God's praises?     The Cathedral Choir will start rehearsals on August 20 at 7:00 pm in Benedictine Hall.  Join us then or call Dave Schmidt at 423-7307 or Jim Lytton at 421-0975.  Thank you.

Continue the Journey ~ Explore Bible Scripture.  Take an in depth look into Sunday’s Scripture Readings, find their message and how that message applies in your life.  We meet every other week on Wednesday at 6:30 pm for 1 to 1 ½ hours in Crowley Hall. The next meeting is August 13th.  All are welcome to attend, including parents with children and RCIA graduates.  Lay volunteers from the parish put on this program.

MAGNIFICAT invites you to a prayer meal on Sat., Aug. 23. The brunch will begin at 10:00 am at Beacon Hills-County Inn Suites, 5353 N. 27th St.   Elizabeth Webster, who recently became Catholic, and is now being called to contemplative religious life will share this amazing story of God's pursuing love. The Rosary is prayed every Monday at 5:30.  We pray for life, the sick of the parish and for the military. For information call Mary Groebner at 488-3681

You are invited to a conference celebrating the Jubilee Year of St. Paul Saturday, August 16th at 1:00 pm at the Cor Mariae Shrine in Crete, a designated Jubilee pilgrimage site.  Msgr. Daniel Seiker will give a talk, “Love in the Teachings of St. Paul.”  Confessions and Holy Mass will follow.  This conference provides an opportunity to obtain a plenary indulgence, if certain requirements are met.  Space is limited.  To register call 402-826-3346.  Refreshments will be served and a free will offering will be taken.

SUPPORT GROUPS / EDUCATION / OTHER

Catholic Daughters of the Americas will meet August 12th at 7:00 pm at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 6044 South Street.  All members and guests are invited to attend.

Benefit Concert for Elizabeth Webster Sunday, August 10th, 2:00 pm, at North American Martyrs.  Elizabeth will be entering the Contemplative Sisters of St. John but cannot do so until her student loans are paid off.  Please help her answer “fiat” to God’s call. Free will offering.

YOUTH ~ FAMILY ~ SCHOOL

Jonah Borngrebe is the 2½ year old grandson of Bill and Kay Spring of our parish.  Jonah is battling brain cancer.  Family and friends have organized several fundraisers to assist the family.  See the bulletin board in the vestibule for details.

Cathedral Godteens is a weekly program offered to all parish students in grades 9-12.  Join us for bowling Sunday, August 24th at Parkway Lanes, 2555 South 48th Street.  Registration 2:00 – 2:30 PM, bowling begins at 2:30.  Registration is $30 for the year and freshmen bowl free. 
Early Registration
* August 16th & 17th following 5:00 PM, 9:00, 10:30 and 12:00 Masses.
* August 23rd & 24th following the 5:00 PM, 9:00, 10:30 and Noon Masses.
Registration forms may also be picked up in the church rectory.

CCD Registration:  August 16th & 17th and August 23rd & 24th following the 5:00 PM and 7:30, 9:00, 10:30 AM, 12:00 and 6:00 PM Masses.  Payment is due with the registration.  The CCD program is always in need of volunteer teachers or helpers.  We have openings for teachers in 1st, 3rd and 4th grades.  Please prayerfully consider becoming a teacher.  Questions or to volunteer please call Jackie Thompson @ 488-4840.  Classes are held on Wednesdays from 6:15 – 7:30 PM in Cathedral school.  Classes begin on September 3rd.

SUNDAY SCHOOL:  Children's Liturgy begins in September during the 10:30 AM Mass.  Children ages 3-6 are invited to attend.  We are looking for volunteers!  For more information call Mona Gossard, 488-9605.

THERE’S A NEW RESTURANT IN TOWN...TEXAS ROADHOUSE… YEP WE HAVE ROADHOUSE SCRIP.  The certificate denomination is $25 with an 8% return.  SCRIP can be purchased after Mass, at the school or church office. Knights of Columbus your weekend to sell is August 16th and 17th.
